A Brookings Institution report found that Portland’s economy is primed for growth.

Portland’s economic outlook, according to one national measure, shined during the last quarter.

The Washington, D.C.-based Brookings Institution’s Metro Monitor report found that the region ranked ninth nationally in terms of employment, house prices and locally generated gross domestic product counts.

The Brookings group, which is working with local leaders to enhance the Portland region’s export counts, gave Portland kudos for boosting employment in the professional and business services, manufacturing and information industries.

The Brookings report measures and ranks the nation’s 100 largest metropolitan areas in four categories.

The region’s GDP output jumped by 0.6 percent last quarter. Since 2004, the Portland area’s GDP levels have increased by 20.6 percent, according to Brookings. Portland’s performance in the measure ranked second in the Brookings survey.

Portland’s 8.1 percent unemployment rate during July ranked the city 10th among the nation’s 100 largest metro areas.
