West Linn is a city in Clackamas County, Oregon. Now a southern suburb within the Portland metropolitan area, West Linn has a history of early development, prompted by the opportunity to harvest energy from nearby Willamette Falls. It was named after U.S. Senator Lewis F. Linn of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, who had advocated the American occupation of Oregon as a counterclaim to the British.
With commanding views, top-rated schools within the West Linn-Wilsonville School District, easy access to parks, a top rated library, the Willamette River and a 25 minute commute to Portland, it’s no wonder West Linn was voted one of the “Best Places to Live” in 2011 by CNN/Money Magazine.
Enjoy breathtaking views of the Cascades and year-round community activities. Walk the Historic Willamette Business District and dine at cafes, find darling shops and indulge with gourmet coffee. Enjoy a summer concert or the Old Time Fair. Pick fresh produce at the farmers’ market and show off your fancy footwork at the popular yearly Street Dance.
The beautiful terrain in West Linn is, in part, thanks to the Missoula Floods, which brought with it the famous Willamette Meteorite at the end of the last ice age. West Linn is also a Tree City USA Community, designated by the Arbor Day Foundation, the nation’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to planting trees.
With low crime, friendly neighbors and involved parents, West Linn is a marvelous place to both raise a family and relax in retirement.
